Stand Out: Business Research for Job Interviews & Networking Online

Preparing for a job or internship interview? Attending a career fair or networking event? Learn how to stand out - no matter your major.

Join the TMU Library for a hands-on, low‑pressure workshop where you’ll learn how to find credible, up‑to‑date information on any company or industry. We’ll show you how to use specialty business databases to uncover the details employers wish candidates knew: company profiles, competitors, market trends, consumer behavior, and more.

Walk away with practical research skills you can use right away to spark smarter conversations, ask better questions, and feel more confident in interviews and networking.

Expectations for Participants: The session is designed to be interactive, and collaborative. You'll be invited to actively participate through virtual breakout rooms, screen sharing, and working in small groups. The brief group activity helps you practice the exact research skills you’ll use in real interviews.

A note for the group-activity-averse: If you usually shy away from group work, please don’t let the mention of breakout rooms deter you. The group portion will be brief (about 15 minutes), light, and manageable. No pressure, no overwhelm. Promise.

You will be:

  • Put into small groups of 2 - 4 people
  • Working collaboratively on a focused activity so you can help each other and finish faster
  • Not required to socialize or turn on your cameras, unless you want to

Tech check: If you are comfortable, we would love to see your shining face and hear your beautiful voice. At minimum, please ensure you have a stable internet connection with audio/mic capabilities with minimal background noise.

Who can join: This session is open to all current TMU graduate and undergraduate students, no matter your program or area of study. Everyone’s welcome!

A note for alumni: Library databases are accessible only to current TMU members due to licensing restrictions. Alumni are still welcome to participate, and we'll ensure you're paired with current students for the group activity.
