Identifying Deceptive Practices in Scholarly Publishing Online

Deceptive or predatory publishing continues to challenge the integrity of scholarly communication, exploiting the pressures faced by researchers to publish while undermining the credibility of academic work. This talk examines deceptive publishers' practices unpacking how these entities operate, how they exploit the open access model, why they persist, and the risks they pose to knowledge creation, and researcher reputation. This session will explore the conditions that allow predatory journals to flourish, including the commercialization of academic publishing, and metrics-driven evaluation systems. This session will provide practical guidance for evaluating publications venues.

This session will be presented By Librarians Brian Cameron and Ann Ludbrook
