Repair Workshop: Valentine's Edition

Repair Workshop: Valentine's Edition In-Person

As part of an exciting new partnership between TMU Libraries’ Digital Media Experience (DME) Lab and the Sustainability Office, students, faculty and staff are invited to attend this sustainable making event.

With our team of approachable fixers, attendees will learn how to breathe new life into an item of their choosing at the DME lab (SLC 308). We'll guide you through all the steps necessary and provide materials, supplies and light refreshments.

Are you looking to begin a new project? The Repair Workshop will have surplus badge holders available for participants to personalize using the DME's Cricut Maker machine. If you choose this option, you'll be able to custom print a design and iron it onto your badge holder!

If you don't finish your project the same day, drop by any time after the event -- we know that fixing can often be an iterative process.

Not only will participants reduce their own waste, but they’ll help TMU achieve its goal of becoming a zero-waste campus by 2035.

What to expect

  • Hands-on DIY repair stations: Have a broken gadget that's been gathering dust or a favourite shirt that's seen better days? Bring them in! Our skilled fixers will guide you through the repair process, helping you revive your items and reduce waste.
  • Community connections: Meet and mingle with fellow students, faculty and staff who are passionate about innovative sustainability initiatives and programming.

Why you should attend

  • Develop repair skills: Learn valuable tips and tricks to fix items yourself, saving money and extending their life.
  • Support TMU’s zero-waste goal: Contribute to our university’s target of becoming a zero-waste campus by 2035.
  • Champion responsible consumption: Be a part of a culture that values repair over disposal and help us shape a more sustainable future.
  • Join the global repair movement: Your participation supports Circular Economy Month and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal for Responsible Consumption.

What items can you repair at the workshop?

This event is themed and will focus on upcycling a provide hoodie.

At our other events, our team of experts will guide you through how to repair items like computers, electronics, clothing, jewelry, books and other non-hazardous goods. For safety reasons, we are unable to repair household appliances, baby seats, high-voltage electronics, heat-generating devices (i.e. portable space heaters) or illegal or controlled items.

Register for the Repair Workshop

Secure your spot by registering early!

Walk-in attendees are welcome the day of the event. However, we encourage you to register in advance to ensure we have enough materials and experts available to event participants.
