Financial Foundations: A Student's Guide to Canadian Banking Online

This session is presented in collaboration with the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) of Canada, and will be delivered by a CPA member with expertise in personal finance and student-focused financial education.

This session lays the groundwork for confident money management in Canada. It begins with an overview of the banking system, including how to choose and use bank accounts and services effectively. Key concepts such as ATMs, debit cards, and credit cards are explained—highlighting their functions, differences, and the impact of transaction fees. The session also explores the importance of establishing a strong credit history, and provides a breakdown of paycheques to clarify payroll deductions. Guidance is offered on filing income tax returns, including when and how to file, and where to access support. Practical tools and resources are introduced to help participants navigate their financial journey with confidence.
