Laser Cutter (SLC 308)

Laser Cutter (SLC 308) Model Glowforge Plus
Service Advisory: The DME is currently updating its laser cutting equipment and workflow processes and additional skills testing workshops are not being offered at this time. New users interested in learning the DME's Laser Cutting workflow during the Spring/Summer term must contact dme-advising@torontomu.ca. We apologize for the inconvenience.

A mandatory safety certification and orientation session with DME staff are required to use the laser cutter. If you haven't completed this, please refer to our Laser Cutting Checklist on D2L for more information.

Combined with the DME's beginner training, our area's Glowforge laser cutter offers users a safe way to subtractively manufacture -- or cut -- away materials from sheet goods.

The DME offers basic laser cutting services to TMU Libraries' users. The Lab features a Glowforge Plus laser cutter that allows trained user to print materials up to 11" x 19". Laser cutting sessions are 45 minutes in length: 30 minutes (maximum) cut time, and 15 minutes of file prep time with our staff experts.

Please note, only materials approved by the DME may be used with this laser cutter. Materials sourced outside the DME are subject to pre-approval by staff. We ask that you provide a receipt of purchase with the material name/type/size and any relevant information. Some materials may require additional testing to calibrate settings, please ensure that you have enough material to complete the booking.

Remember, laser cutting projects can involve a fair bit of trial and error. Before you cut, we'll review your project needs and work with you to split up your project into multiple smaller slots.
